Every little helps

It’s been a while now since I returned home to Zagreb and I am getting a bit frustrated because everything seems to be happening very slowly, but my friends are trying to help me.

It’s been a while now since I returned home to Zagreb and I am getting a bit frustrated because everything seems to be happening very slowly, but my friends are trying to help me.

Maja bought a new Croatian flag, info chart, teak oil, polishing paste for stainless steel and a cleaner for the water tank, Zoran was in Vrsar the other day and noticed that one of the stern lines snapped, so he replaced it and said that he will pump out the water from the bilges, I was in Rijeka with Elvis and we bought a new exhaust pipe for the engine, gelcoat filler and a new windex and we ordered a new stainless steel fuel tank.

The progress is slow… but every little helps. 🙂

Friends…

Every time I go to the boat and I stay for more than one day, I stay with my good friends Jelena & Andrej who live in Poreč which is about 20 minutes away by car. I always feel very welcome there… and why wouldn’t I? Great company, good food and wine, nice house…

This time, Anrej & Jelena were s kind to leave me the keys of the house because they went to Italy for the weekend. They also did some shopping there… and when I went to bed on Sunday night, there was a surprise waiting for me…

There was a paper bag from Zara on the bed. I knew that what was inside had nothing o do with that, so I had to have a look.

IMG_3594First thing I saw was a note that said: ‘For HIR 3. Long and happy sailing! Fair winds!!! Jelena & Andrej’

It was a really cool winch handle holder from G-Nautics! This is a first donation for the boat. THANKS!!!

IMG_3595 I can’t describe how nice it is to have a support like that. They give me a place to stay, prepare dinner, we drink good wines, borrow tools, even buy me presents… and bring a cold beer to the boat when I need it!

How I met her…

I have first met ‘HIR 3’ quite a long time ago, it was in 1992 when I was only 14 years old.

I have first met ‘HIR 3’ quite a long time ago, it was in 1992 when I was only 14 years old. I sailed only once before in my life one year earlier thanks to my sister and her good friend Miro Muhek who knew Mladen Šutej and has been sailing with him. They asked me if I would go sailing for ten days on board ‘HIR 3’… and my answer was of course – YES!

We covered 328 miles in ten days and I even got a sailing school diploma for it later. I actually saved it and I still have it:)

The most memorable part of the trip was sailing from Rovinj to Venice. I remember we had perfect weather and all we had to do is set the sails and let the autopilot do the rest. When we entered the marked passages in front of Venice and we didn’t use the engine, but we did hunderds of tacks between thousands of boats until the wind died in the evening near the marina.

Next time I saw her was in 2006 (I think?) in port of Vrsar after she was sold to a new owner. I haven’t been there for a log time after that and I forgot all about it, but when I came to Vrsar in November 2013, I remembered her and went to see if she was still there. She was… but she looked miserable. It looked like she was abandoned. Completely covered in seaweed and seashells under the waterline, dirty hull and deck and rotten lines.

We were standing in front of the boat and commenting for quite a while, took some pictures and left… but I continued to think about her… about one month later I decided to try to find the owner to find out what is going on…
